A Smile Is Charity
On Friday, Khalid's class was collecting money for families in need. Everyone brought a few coins. Khalid's pocket was empty, and he felt sad.
At home, he asked his grandmother, "Dadi, I have nothing to give. Can I still do sadaqah?"
Dadi smiled. "Our Prophet ﷺ taught us that smiling at your brother is charity. You have many smiles, Khalid!"
The next morning Khalid smiled at the bus driver, who smiled back. He smiled at the new boy who was sitting alone, and the boy asked to play with him. He smiled at the tired lady at the shop, and she said, "You made my day better."
That night Khalid counted on his fingers. "Dadi, I gave five sadaqahs today — and my pocket is still full!"
A smile is a gift we can give every day.
Talk about it together
- Who did Khalid smile at, and what happened?
- Who could you smile at tomorrow?
- What other kind things cost nothing at all?
